To Mumble or Not?!
When the discussion of “Golden Era” Hip Hop arises, many will debate who’s the greatest of all time (G.O.A.T.), while others zone in on the key elements that define the meaning in the phrase. Several artists can be mentioned, but when it comes to overall consistency mixed with passion for the culture and craft, Rampage the Last Boy Scout is an automatic pick. From the active days of the Flip Mode Squad (Busta Rhymes, Spliff Star, Rah Digga, Lord Have Mercy, just to name some) he has been an intricate brick in the foundation as well as showcased his importance in Hip Hop with electrifying “Live” performances and solid lyrical displays on multiple projects.
Back to show that “Mumble Rap” has no place in Hip Hop culture is the latest single from Rampage over production from Blackwater. A new wave take on 1993’s Digable Planets “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)” release. This track is infectious to the ear with a heavy Jazz Bass Line accompanied by Jazzy Horns over the bridge. Rampage does a great job filling in the track with catchy lines and solidifies his message throughout the hook. To put it simple and plain, “You on that Mumble Rap? We Out!”
